A current opportunity for calligraphers
Qatar Museums lists 22 November 2026 as the submission deadline for the Al-Raqim international calligraphy competition. We checked the listing on 20 October. This is an update on an existing open call, rather than a report that the competition was launched today.
The listing identifies the organisers as the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zaid Al-Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre, together with the Museum of Islamic Art. It describes a programme supporting Arabic calligraphy, language and cultural exchange.
Five scripts are listed
The named scripts are Thuluth Jeli, Naskh, Nasta’liq, Diwani Jeli and Muhaqaq. Those names identify the calligraphic styles in the museum listing. The full entry categories and eligibility conditions need to be checked in the competition rules.
Qatar Museums directs readers to Alraqim.qa for the competition categories, prizes, submission guidance and terms. Before preparing an entry, check the required text, size, materials and originality requirements, alongside any age or residency conditions. We have not confirmed those detailed rules and are not reproducing them here.
Check the route, not just the date
The calendar entry does not specify a deadline time or a complete delivery process. Do not assume that submissions close at midnight, or that work can be handed to museum reception. Follow the organiser’s current instructions and keep any submission confirmation.
This notice is for readers exploring Arabic calligraphy and cultural opportunities. AL-Naqawa does not accept entries or provide competition rulings. The original museum listing below is the starting point for checking arrangements.
