A celebration of the mosque and its community

Singapore’s Masjid Bencoolen held a bicentennial celebration on 18 October 2026, according to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, MUIS. The council says around 500 mosque leaders, volunteers, donors and community members attended the gathering at Orchard Hotel.

A commemorative book was launched at the event to preserve the mosque’s history through photographs, personal stories and accounts of its development. This report concerns the celebration described in MUIS’s announcement; it is not an invitation to a forthcoming ceremony.

Community life beyond the prayer hall

MUIS highlights mediation support and gatherings involving students as examples of the mosque’s wider community role. The announcement also describes ambitions to involve younger people in future leadership and community work.

Those plans are a useful reason to learn more about the institution, but they do not establish that a particular volunteer role is available now. Anyone interested in helping should ask the mosque about its current needs, time commitments and any preparation required.

Where to check before visiting or volunteering

The mosque’s contact page lists 51 Bencoolen Street, Singapore 189630. Its website also provides a volunteer enquiry form. These are direct channels for checking current arrangements; AL-Naqawa does not handle bookings or volunteer applications.

For a visit that includes prayer, confirm the mosque’s own congregational arrangements rather than treating a city’s calculated prayer start time as the time a congregation will begin. Our guide to prayer start times and Iqamah explains that distinction.

  • Check the official contact page before travelling, especially if you need accessibility information.
  • Ask which activities are currently accepting volunteers and what commitment is expected.
  • If you would like the commemorative book, ask the mosque about availability; the announcement does not provide an ordering process.
